While not strictly a Bard's Tale game, Maze Master is one of the first games published by Michael Cranford, who would go on to design most of the original Bard's Tale series. Some elements from this little-known game clearly made their way into the later Bard's Tale games, so this can be thought of as Bard's Tale 0, much as Akalabeth is often referred to as Ultima 0.
