| I was the original programmer on Fahrenheit 451. It was written in a proprietary language developed by Spinnaker Software know as "SAL" ("Spinnaker Adventure Language"). This was many, many years ago, but if you type in the word "spam", and then enter a number (probably something less than 40 or 50), the game will quickly take you to that "room" or "scene" in the game. This was a backdoor I put in the program for testing. Honestly not sure if I removed this backdoor prior to the production version.
There is also a character named "Doug Walck" who I named after my nephew. He was about 12 years old at the time and thought it was the coolest thing in the world that his name was buried inside the program.
We worked unbelievable hours on these projects - the single longest non-stop programming binge I did at the time was 42 straight hours with barely a break. There was a time that we moved on site, there was a health club in the base of the building where we showered, and we slept on the floor in the board room. I saw many a sun rise from the roof of One Kendall Square!
Great times and fond memories. |
