Started by Bob Bates, who had worked on a couple Infocom titles in that company's dying days, it is no surprise that Legend Entertainment took the Infocom concept into the 90s and the VGA era. Another Infocommie, Steve Meretzky, was also a key team member. Together with their team of talented individuals, Legend released hit after hit, preserving the excellent storytelling of the Infocom games, but adding graphics, and a much simplified interface for entering commands which continued to evolve from game to game. While they were still technologically behind the Sierra and Lucasfilm games of the time - having for the most part just static illustrations for each location in the game - they more than made up for this with their twisting plots, devious puzzles, and excellent humour. They will be sadly missed. |
